NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi met with Mr Dario Amodei, Chief Executive Officer of Anthropic, in New Delhi on Saturday to discuss the company’s growing presence in India and the expanding adoption of its artificial intelligence (AI) tools. The meeting underscored India’s emergence as a major hub for ethical and inclusive AI innovation.

During the discussions, Mr Amodei shared insights into Anthropic’s expansion plans in the country and the rapid uptake of its AI products, including Claude Code, whose use in India has reportedly increased fivefold since June. The conversation centred on fostering collaboration in AI research, skill development, and practical applications across various sectors.

Prime Minister Modi highlighted India’s vibrant technology ecosystem, describing it as a driving force for human-centric innovation. He noted that India’s young talent pool and dynamic start-up environment have positioned the country as a key contributor to global technological progress.

“India’s vibrant tech ecosystem and talented youth are driving AI innovation that is human-centric and responsible. We welcome Anthropic’s expansion and look forward to working together to harness AI for growth across key sectors,” the Prime Minister posted on X.

He emphasised the government’s commitment to promoting the responsible and ethical use of artificial intelligence to ensure that technological growth remains inclusive and aligned with public welfare. The Prime Minister also discussed how AI can strengthen key sectors such as education, healthcare, and agriculture-areas that are central to India’s development priorities.

Mr Amodei commended India’s proactive policy framework and its focus on developing AI for social good. He noted that Anthropic sees India not only as a market for AI applications but also as a crucial partner in shaping the future of responsible AI governance.

The meeting comes amid India’s continued push to become a global leader in emerging technologies. With the government’s initiatives under Digital India and AI for All, partnerships with leading global companies such as Anthropic are expected to further accelerate innovation and skill-building in the AI sector.

Observers view the engagement as a significant step in deepening collaboration between global technology firms and India’s digital ecosystem, paving the way for long-term investments and sustainable AI solutions designed for real-world challenges.
