Mumbai: Actor-comedian Rajpal Yadav continues to face legal uncertainty in connection with a cheque bounce case linked to an alleged ₹9-crore debt. Even as hopes of relief during a recent bail hearing faded, members of the film fraternity have stepped forward to offer financial and moral support.
Filmmaker Priyadarshan, who has collaborated with Rajpal on several successful comedies over the years, has publicly expressed solidarity with the actor. The duo, currently working together on a new project that also stars Pankaj Tripathi, share a long professional association spanning over two decades.
Speaking about the situation, Priyadarshan revealed that he has asked producers of his upcoming film to increase Rajpal’s remuneration in light of his financial difficulties. He described the actor as a “good soul” and said the industry must stand by him during challenging times. According to the filmmaker, Rajpal will be seen playing a negative role in the forthcoming project.
Actor Gurmeet Choudhary also voiced support, calling the situation heartbreaking and urging colleagues to come forward to help a senior artiste who has contributed significantly to Hindi cinema. Rajpal’s long-time associate Padam Singh echoed similar sentiments, expressing confidence that the actor intends to repay his dues if given adequate time.
The case reportedly stems from financial issues related to Rajpal’s 2012 directorial venture Ata Pata Laapata, which failed at the box office. Loans taken for the film are said to have accumulated interest over the years.
As legal proceedings continue, several industry members are expected to extend support while the matter takes its course.
