Actors Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas tied the knot in 2018 in Jodhpur, blending Hindu and Christian wedding traditions. In a recent appearance on the YouTube show Mythical Kitchen, Priyanka opened up about their intimate roka ceremony and the moment that made her realise her life was changing.
“It felt like walking into a new life”
Priyanka shared that her mother, Madhu Chopra, went to great lengths to make the ceremony meaningful, especially as her late father was not present. The family transformed their home setting with low seating and a havan kund at the centre, while four pandits chanted Vedic mantras.
She recalled that the significance of the moment did not fully register when Nick placed the ring on her finger. Instead, it was when they walked hand in hand that she felt the emotional shift. “I am choosing my family,” she reflected, describing the ceremony as stepping into a new chapter of life.
Nick impressed the aunties
The ceremony also won over her extended family. Priyanka said her aunts were delighted to see Nick participating wholeheartedly correctly chanting “swaha” during the rituals and even playing the dholak.
After the ceremony, Nick reportedly told her, “I feel like we are on our third or fourth lifetime,” referencing the Hindu wedding custom of taking seven pheras around the sacred fire symbolising a bond across lifetimes. When she asked why he felt that way, he replied that the relationship felt familiar and comforting, “like home.”
Priyanka joked that such a heartfelt statement left her with little choice but to marry him.
Their journey together
The couple’s relationship began in 2016 when Nick first messaged Priyanka on social media. They made several public appearances together including at the Met Gala in 2017 before getting engaged and marrying in 2018.
In 2022, they welcomed their daughter, Malti Marie Chopra Jonas, via surrogacy. Today, Priyanka and Nick remain one of the most talked-about cross-cultural celebrity couples, often sharing glimpses of their family life with fans.
