Hyderabad-based producer SKN has filed a police complaint against social media accounts for allegedly posting derogatory and misleading remarks targeting the film The Raja Saab and its cast. The complaint was lodged at the Cyber Crime Police Station in Hyderabad following a wave of online trolling after the film’s theatrical release.
Directed by Maruthi, The Raja Saab is a horror-comedy starring Prabhas, Sanjay Dutt, Nidhhi Agerwal, Malavika Mohanan and Riddhi Kumar. The film released on January 9, ahead of the Sankranthi festival, and opened to mixed reviews from critics and audiences. Despite the lukewarm reception, the film reportedly collected around ₹200 crore worldwide.
In a statement issued to the press, SKN said that the complaint was filed against social media handles that were impersonating him and spreading negative content about the film and its actors. According to the statement, these posts were aimed at creating confusion and damaging the reputation of those associated with the project. The producer added that strict legal action would be pursued and confirmed that the matter is currently under investigation.
SKN, who worked as the creative producer on the film, has been a vocal supporter of director Maruthi and the project. Ahead of the release, he had publicly praised the team and also alleged that there were attempts to run a negative campaign against the film during its production phase. At the film’s teaser launch, SKN had claimed that despite such campaigns, the film moved forward because of Prabhas’ commitment and confidence in the project.
The Raja Saab is produced by People Media Factory and IVY Entertainment. The film revolves around a man searching for his missing grandfather, only to uncover dark secrets inside a haunted mansion. Made on a reported budget of around ₹400 crore, the film faced stiff box office competition from several other big-ticket releases during the festive period.
It remains to be seen what action authorities will take in response to the cyber complaint.
