The provincial government in Punjab has imposed an “immediate and complete” 30-day ban on the use of drones, citing security concerns and potential threats to public safety.
Officials said the decision was taken as a precautionary measure to prevent the misuse of unmanned aerial vehicles in sensitive areas across the province. Authorities noted that drones could pose risks if used for surveillance, smuggling or other unlawful activities, especially during periods of heightened security.
According to the notification issued by the provincial administration, the ban applies to all types of drones, including recreational, commercial and privately operated unmanned aerial vehicles. The restriction will remain in effect for 30 days, during which law-enforcement agencies will closely monitor compliance.
The government said the measure is aimed at strengthening security arrangements and ensuring public safety across the province. Officials warned that anyone found violating the order will face strict legal action under relevant laws.
Security agencies have also been instructed to increase surveillance and coordinate with local authorities to enforce the ban effectively. Checkpoints and monitoring mechanisms are expected to be strengthened in key locations to ensure that drones are not operated without official permission.
Authorities emphasised that the temporary restriction has been imposed purely as a preventive step and may be reviewed depending on the security situation in the region. Officials said the government is committed to maintaining law and order and preventing any activity that could threaten stability.
The decision has been communicated to district administrations, police units and other relevant departments to ensure proper implementation of the order throughout the province.
Drone usage has increased in recent years for photography, media coverage and commercial purposes. However, officials said the growing availability of such technology also requires stricter monitoring to prevent potential misuse.
The administration has urged citizens and organisations to cooperate with the directive and follow the temporary restrictions until the ban period ends.
