Putin Thanks Modi and Trump for Efforts to End Ukraine War

President Vladimir Putin of Russia thanked Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former United States' President Donald Trump for trying to stop the war against Ukraine.

In his recent speech, Putin complimented Modi and Trump for their diplomatic efforts toward organizing peace negotiations.

President Putin highlighted India's consistent position on diplomacy and dialogue, which is reflected in PM Modi's demand for peace. India has taken a neutral stance during the conflict, calling for dialogue by all sides instead of heightening the conflict. Putin appreciated India's role as one of the main international actors advocating for stability and cooperation.

The Russian leader also said that he had taken note of Trump's recent calls to end the war in Ukraine. Trump has persistently declared that, should he be re-elected, he will end the war within a matter of days. The approval by Putin of Trump's pronouncements reflects Russia's openness to negotiating, especially in the event that the future U.S. leadership is willing to take another turn towards ending the war.

During the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, peace statements made by Modi and Trump have become a token of a lingering aspiration for peace by world leaders.

It remains unclear whether these diplomatic gestures will lead to tangible negotiations, however, it does mark the start of the Russian attempts to listen to what the international community is saying.
