RG Kar Convict’s Niece Found Dead in Kolkata; Locals Allege Foul Play, Parents Beaten

According to police reports, the girl’s body was discovered inside a wardrobe on Sunday, raising questions about the nature of her death. The child lived with her father, Bhola Singh, and stepmother, Pooja Singh, both of whom were present at home when the body was found. Investigators are currently awaiting the autopsy report to confirm the cause of death.

Tensions escalated in the neighbourhood on Tuesday when police officers reached the house to bring the parents in for questioning. Angry locals, suspecting that the child was murdered, allegedly attacked Bhola and Pooja Singh, claiming that the girl had been subjected to neglect and abuse. Police had to intervene to rescue the couple from the mob and escort them to the station for interrogation.

A neighbour told reporters that the girl had often appeared withdrawn in recent months and was rarely seen outside. “She didn’t talk much and looked scared most of the time,” the resident said, adding that community members had previously expressed concern for her wellbeing.

The case has drawn attention due to the family’s connection with Sanjay Roy, whose conviction in the high-profile RG Kar rape and murder case had sparked widespread outrage earlier this year. The tragic death of his niece has now added another disturbing layer to the controversy.

Senior officers said a detailed investigation is underway. “We are exploring all possible angles, whether it was suicide or if there was any foul play involved. Statements of the parents and neighbours are being recorded,” a police official stated.

Meanwhile, locals have demanded a thorough probe to ensure justice for the young girl, whose death has once again shaken the city’s conscience.
