First Advantage, a leading global HR technology company, has released its Half-Year 2025 India Employment Screening Trends Report, offering key insights into employment verification and background check trends across industries in the country. Covering the first and second quarters of 2025, the report analyzes anonymized data from background screenings conducted for Indian companies.
The report shows a notable rise in discrepancies across multiple sectors. In particular, the BFSI (Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance) sector recorded higher-than-average discrepancies, alongside BPO, e-commerce and logistics, education, manufacturing, staffing, and telecom industries. Overall, the average discrepancy rate across all sectors in India stood at 13 percent, but these sectors exceeded this benchmark significantly, signaling potential risks in recruitment and verification processes.
Several sectors, including IT, FMCG, consulting, healthcare & pharma, manufacturing, retail, and staffing, showed increasing discrepancies compared to the previous quarter. Within education verification, industries such as BFSI, BPO, IT, e-commerce & logistics, engineering & infrastructure, manufacturing, and retail exhibited higher irregularities, reflecting a growing need for thorough validation of candidate credentials.
Interestingly, the report also notes a shift in verification methods. Sectors like IT, FMCG, consulting, engineering & infrastructure, healthcare & pharma, and retail are increasingly adopting alternate modes of employment verification, signaling an evolution in industry practices and the growing importance of accurate and agile background checks. Vishnuvardhan Kundhu, Senior Vice President, Revenue India, emphasized the role of technology in addressing these trends: “With multilingual support and faster resolutions, we're making it easier than ever to connect, resolve, and move forward. Together, we are setting new standards in screening excellence and agile workforce solutions.”
