Four suspected militants were arrested during coordinated security operations in different parts of Manipur, officials said on Thursday, amid continued efforts to stabilise the violence-hit state.
According to police sources, the arrests were made during search operations and area domination exercises carried out jointly by state police and central security forces. The detained individuals are believed to be linked to proscribed insurgent outfits active in the region. Authorities said incriminating materials, including arms and ammunition, were recovered during the operations.
The crackdown comes as security agencies intensify surveillance and counter-insurgency measures following months of ethnic tensions and sporadic violence across districts of the northeastern state. Officials stated that intelligence-based operations are being conducted to dismantle militant networks and prevent extortion, recruitment and targeted attacks.
Police added that the arrested militants were allegedly involved in unlawful activities, including intimidation and collection of illegal levies from local businesses. Interrogation is underway to determine the extent of their network and possible links to recent incidents of unrest.
Security has been tightened in sensitive areas, with additional checkpoints and patrols deployed to maintain law and order. Authorities reiterated their commitment to restoring peace and urged citizens to cooperate with law enforcement agencies.
Manipur has witnessed intermittent unrest over the past year, prompting the deployment of additional paramilitary forces and the imposition of security restrictions in certain districts. The latest arrests are being seen as part of sustained efforts by the administration to curb militant activities and rebuild public confidence.
Further investigations are ongoing, and officials indicated that more arrests could follow as operations continue across the state.
