NEW DELHI: Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare and Rural Development, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, on Thursday reviewed the progress of the ‘Self-Reliance in Pulses Mission’ and the ‘Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana’, directing officials to ensure their timely and effective implementation.
During a high-level meeting with senior ministry officials, Shri Chouhan emphasised the importance of swift action at the grassroots level to ensure that the benefits of both initiatives reach farmers without delay. He announced plans to hold a joint meeting with ministers from 11 ministries to expedite the rollout of the ‘Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana’ across the country.
The ‘Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana’, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 11, 2025, at Pusa, New Delhi, seeks to promote agricultural development in 100 aspirational districts by integrating 36 sub-schemes of 11 ministries. The scheme, approved by the Union Cabinet in July 2025, will be implemented over six years starting from FY 2025–26 with an annual outlay of ₹24,000 crore. Shri Chouhan directed officials to convene meetings with the concerned ministers, secretaries, and representatives from NITI Aayog to ensure inter-ministerial coordination and maximise the scheme’s impact on farmers’ incomes.
The ‘Self-Reliance in Pulses Mission’, also launched alongside the Dhan-Dhaanya scheme, aims to boost India’s pulses production and reduce import dependence. The mission has been allocated ₹11,440 crore for six years and targets an increase in the area under pulses cultivation from 275 lakh hectares to 310 lakh hectares, and production from 242 lakh tonnes to 350 lakh tonnes by 2030–31. It also seeks to raise productivity to 1,130 kg per hectare.
Shri Chouhan instructed officials to organise meetings with nodal officers of the concerned states for the creation of district-level clusters and to ensure timely field-level execution. He underscored that these efforts would not only enhance productivity but also create significant rural employment opportunities and strengthen India’s path towards agricultural self-reliance.
