Under her leadership, India won the Women’s World Cup for the first time. Now, Punjab Cricket Association is set to honour Harmanpreet Kaur by naming a stadium stand after her. The World Cup–winning captain herself confirmed the news.
The stand will be named at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh Stadium in Mullanpur. Speaking at an event, Harmanpreet said, “I have received a letter from the Punjab Cricket Association. They informed me that a stand will soon be named after me.”
She added, “Winning the World Cup was a childhood dream. It has finally come true. Jay Shah has played an important role in the rise of women’s cricket. I thank him sincerely. The Women’s Premier League began during his tenure, and it has helped change the mindset of women cricketers.”
Harmanpreet scored 260 runs at an average of 32.50 in the World Cup, including two half-centuries, with a top score of 89. She played a crucial 89 off 88 balls in the semifinal against Australia.
She will also receive an honorary D.Litt degree at Jadavpur University’s upcoming convocation. After honours for Mithali Raj in Visakhapatnam and Jhulan Goswami at Eden Gardens, a stand at Mullanpur will now be named after Harmanpreet Kaur.
