Sunil Gavaskar kept his promise. He sang together with Jemimah Rodrigues and the surprise element was Jemimah’s guitar. Was Gavaskar’s gift a guitar or a bat? In fact, it was a guitar designed to look like a cricket bat. Jemimah played it while Gavaskar sang. Which song? The iconic Sholay number, “Yeh Dosti, Hum Nahin Todenge.”
Sunil Gavaskar had said that if India won the World Cup, he would like to sing with Jemimah Rodrigues provided she agreed. The World Cup victory is now a reality, and Jemimah had long ago confirmed on social media that she was game. Since then, Indian cricket fans had been eagerly waiting for the moment. Finally, that much-anticipated moment arrived.
On Friday, Gavaskar presented Jemimah with a special guitar that looks very much like a cricket bat. Jemimah was visibly delighted on receiving the gift and even joked whether it could be used for singing or batting. With a smile, Gavaskar replied that it could do both. He expressed his admiration for the rhythm and melody in Jemimah’s batting, saying that India’s pride is strung into the strings of that guitar.
Jemimah Rodrigues, who can create storms with the bat, is also known for celebrating by playing it like a guitar. Soon after, the duo broke into song together “Yeh Dosti, Hum Nahin Todenge.” The legendary song from Sholay, originally lip-synced by Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra and sung by Kishore Kumar and Manna Dey, now found new life in this cross-generational moment of friendship. Social media was left charmed by this unique bond.
This wasn’t the first time the Gavaskar–Jemimah duo lit up the stage. Earlier, they had captivated audiences at the BCCI Awards ceremony, where they sang “Kya Hua Tera Wada” together. This time too, they lived up to that promise once again enthralling everyone as a duo.
