India’s U-19 World Cup 2026 campaign gathered momentum after a thrilling 18-run victory over Bangladesh, highlighted by a sensational boundary-line catch from 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi that has since gone viral on social media.
The moment came during the 26th over of Bangladesh’s chase. Md Samiun Basir Ratul attempted to clear the long-off boundary against off-spinner Vihaan Malhotra. Perfectly positioned, Suryavanshi leapt sideways near the rope, caught the ball cleanly, smartly tossed it back in the air while stepping outside the boundary, and then returned to the field to complete a brilliant relay catch. The athletic effort handed India a crucial breakthrough at a decisive stage of the match.
That dismissal triggered a dramatic collapse for Bangladesh, who had been cruising in the chase after rain interruptions revised the target to 165 from 29 overs under the DLS method. At one stage, Bangladesh were well ahead of the par score, reaching 102 for 2 in 20 overs and appearing firmly in control.
However, Vihaan Malhotra turned the match on its head with an outstanding spell of off-spin, finishing with figures of 4 for 14. He removed key middle-order batters in quick succession, exploiting turn and bounce to spark panic in the Bangladesh camp. Support came from Khilan Patel, who dismissed captain Azizul Hakim for a well-made 51, effectively ending the resistance.
Bangladesh eventually collapsed to 146 all out in 28.3 overs, losing eight wickets for just 40 runs. Henil Patel cleaned up the tail to seal India’s second consecutive win in the tournament.
Led by Ayush Mhatre, India now sit comfortably at the top of Group B with four points from two matches, while Bangladesh are still searching for their first win. The match will be remembered not just for the comeback, but for Suryavanshi’s jaw-dropping catch that symbolised India’s energy and intent.
