Telangana: Another Body Found in SLBC Tunnel, Retrieval Underway

image

Rescue teams found yet another body within the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel, which partially collapsed at Nagarkurnool in Telangana on March 25, 2025.

This is a major development in the search and rescue operation that was initiated following the collapse of the roof of the tunnel last month, burying some workers.

The recently discovered body is said to be stuck in the rubble, and rescue efforts are now focused on getting it out. This is just a part of a greater mission to remove the bodies of eight trapped workers after one segment of the tunnel collapsed on February 22, 2025. One of the bodies has so far been recovered successfully.

Around 700 officers from different state and central force agencies have been deployed for the operation. They are also experiencing challenges due to tough terrain and unfavorable conditions inside the tunnel.

Leaking water and waste buildup have added to the problems, with officials estimating the time at another 15 to 20 days to clear the remaining silt.

To facilitate the recovery process, the authorities are employing specialized machinery and geological knowledge. Rescue teams work around the clock to access all buried workers within the collapsed tunnel as further news is delivered.

The situation is still fragile as rescue operations continue to locate the safe evacuation of the remaining unaccounted for.
