NAGPUR: In a significant move for wildlife conservation, a tigress has been successfully translocated from the Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve to the Sonarli acclimatisation enclosure at Chandoli National Park, located within Maharashtra's Sahyadri Tiger Reserve.
The translocation, carried out by forest authorities, is part of ongoing efforts to enhance the breeding programme and boost the tiger population in the region. "This translocation is a crucial step in strengthening the conservation efforts for tigers and ensuring a healthier genetic pool in the Sahyadri Reserve," said a senior forest official involved in the operation.
The tigress, now housed in the Sonarli enclosure, will undergo a period of acclimatisation before being released into the wild. The move is part of a broader initiative to ensure the survival of tigers in the Sahyadri range, which has been identified as an important corridor for tiger movement in Maharashtra. The translocation follows a series of efforts aimed at improving the connectivity between tiger habitats and enhancing biodiversity in the region.
