Fighting inside Bengal’s ruling party, Trinamool Congress (TMC), was exposed on Tuesday after a video and WhatsApp chat screenshots between party MPs were shared online. BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya posted the screenshots, claiming they showed a serious argument between TMC MPs Kalyan Banerjee and Kirti Azad. The chats have not been confirmed as real.
The argument started during a visit to the Election Commission office, where two TMC MPs, including a woman, had a public fight. Banerjee said the woman MP shouted at him and even told security guards to arrest him.
The woman MP didn’t speak to the media. Party sources said she left the WhatsApp group and wrote letters to Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee about the issue. The fight continued in the group chat, where Banerjee and Azad blamed each other.
Senior TMC leader Sougata Roy criticized Banerjee, saying his behavior damaged the party’s image and called for his removal as chief whip. Meanwhile, Malviya tweeted more about the fight and asked Mamata Banerjee to find out who leaked the chats.
