Shivam Mishra, son of tobacco businessman KK Mishra, was arrested Thursday morning from a hospital in Delhi in connection with the high-profile Lamborghini crash on Kanpur’s VIP Road. He is set to be presented in court later today.
The incident occurred on Sunday when a Lamborghini Revuelto, reportedly speeding and worth over Rs 10 crore, lost control and collided with pedestrians and vehicles, leaving six people injured. Among the injured was 18-year-old e-rickshaw driver Mohd Taufeeq, who later filed a police complaint.
Police investigations confirmed that Shivam Mishra was driving the luxury car at the time of the accident. He faces charges including negligent and rash driving, endangering lives, and causing hurt by dangerous means. The arrest comes four days after the crash, during which Mishra was reportedly on the run.
Adding a dramatic twist, a man named Mohan appeared in a Kanpur court on Wednesday claiming that he, and not Shivam, had been driving the car. Mohan alleged that Mishra suffered a sudden seizure while inside the vehicle, causing him to lose control. He said an auto-locking system prevented him from exiting the car immediately after the crash, and he had to shift Mishra to the driver’s seat in a panic.
Despite this claim, police cited multiple pieces of evidence, including videos showing Shivam being pulled from the driver’s seat after the collision. Consequently, the court refused Mohan’s surrender and asked the police to submit a detailed report.
The case has attracted significant public attention due to the combination of a luxury vehicle, alleged negligence, and Shivam’s prominent family background. Authorities are expected to take further action based on ongoing investigations.
