ABU DHABI: Union Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri Kirti Vardhan Singh, attended the ‘Recognition Ceremony of Forest Rangers’ on the sidelines of the IUCN World Conservation Congress 2025 in Abu Dhabi. The ceremony celebrated the unwavering dedication of forest rangers and wildlife protectors who play a crucial role in safeguarding India’s natural heritage.

Addressing the gathering, Shri Singh said it was a great honour to recognise the efforts of “brave men and women who have dedicated their lives to the conservation of forests and wildlife.” He emphasised that these individuals stand at the frontline of environmental protection, often working in challenging conditions to preserve biodiversity for future generations.

“These are the people who ensure that the country’s rich wildlife heritage is preserved for generations to come,” he remarked, highlighting the critical role played by rangers in combating threats such as poaching, deforestation, and illegal wildlife trade.

During the event, the Minister released a special report titled Guardians of the Wild, which documents the stories, challenges, and achievements of forest rangers across India. The publication seeks to raise awareness about the risks they face and the need for greater institutional support to strengthen forest governance and wildlife protection.

The recognition ceremony brought together delegates from several countries, conservationists, and representatives from international environmental organisations under the banner of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). The event underscored global cooperation in advancing conservation goals and acknowledged the vital role of local communities and field personnel in achieving them.

Shri Singh also reiterated India’s commitment to strengthening its environmental frameworks in line with the principles of sustainable development. He noted that India’s expanding network of protected areas and wildlife sanctuaries reflects a national priority towards conserving ecosystems while supporting livelihoods dependent on forest resources.

The IUCN World Conservation Congress, being held in Abu Dhabi, serves as one of the most significant international platforms for discussing biodiversity protection, climate resilience, and sustainable development strategies. India’s participation, led by senior officials and conservation experts, reaffirms the country’s leadership role in global environmental stewardship.
