LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday held a high-level meeting with the Chairman and Members of the National Statistical Commission (NSC) and senior officials from the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), aimed at strengthening the State’s statistical systems to support its aspiration of becoming a one trillion-dollar economy.
The meeting, held ahead of the one-day State Interaction of the NSC with the Directorate of Economics and Statistics (DES), saw the participation of Prof. Rajiva Laxman Karandikar, Chairman, NSC; Prof. A. Ganesh Kumar and Shri Asit Kumar Sadhu, Members, NSC; and Dr. Saurabh Garg, Secretary, MoSPI and Member Secretary, NSC.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath lauded the collaborative approach of MoSPI and NSC in improving data quality and reliability, particularly in the estimation of the State’s GDP, employment statistics, Consumer Price Index, and industrial data. He said the State Government has been advancing data-driven governance through key initiatives such as the CM Dashboard and the One Trillion Economy Mission, both of which rely on real-time monitoring and statistical analysis to guide decision-making.
Prof. Karandikar emphasised that reliable and credible statistics are fundamental to evidence-based policymaking. He reiterated the NSC’s commitment to supporting Uttar Pradesh in technical domains such as Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) estimation, survey methodology, and price statistics. “Harmonising central and state-level statistical systems is crucial to ensuring accuracy, comparability, and timeliness of data,” he said.
Dr. Garg underlined the Ministry’s ongoing partnership with the State under the “Support for Statistical Strengthening (SSS)” scheme. He assured that both technical and financial assistance would continue to flow for upgrading statistical infrastructure, building capacity, and training officials on new methodologies and technologies.
The meeting also reviewed Uttar Pradesh’s achievements in statistical operations. Officials noted that the State currently has one of the lowest inflation rates among major States and consistently releases its Index of Industrial Production (IIP). DES Uttar Pradesh has been a key contributor to major national surveys including the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS), the Household Consumption Expenditure Survey (HCES), and the Annual Survey of Unincorporated Sector Enterprises (ASUSE).
Discussions also covered the upcoming revision of the base year for GDP and IIP to 2022–23, with MoSPI assuring full cooperation in developing the new factory frame and item basket. The NSC commended DES Uttar Pradesh for integrating statistical insights into development planning and encouraged the State to expand coverage to new economic sectors, including digital and service industries.
The Chief Minister expressed appreciation for the NSC’s guidance and reaffirmed his government’s commitment to institutionalising robust data practices. “Credible data is the backbone of policy. It enables us to measure progress and design effective interventions in agriculture, industry, education, and healthcare,” he said.
Both sides agreed that technology and administrative data must be leveraged for real-time monitoring and consistency in statistical standards. The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to developing a transparent, technology-driven, and evidence-based statistical framework to support Uttar Pradesh’s economic transformation and inclusive development.
