Speaking at a Turning Point USA event in Mississippi, Vance shared that Usha regularly accompanies him to church on most Sundays and expressed his wish that she comes to see the Christian gospel the same way he does.
Vance, who converted to Catholicism in 2019, emphasized that his wife's faith does not cause any problems for him and respects her free will. He explained that faith and belief are personal matters to be worked out with loved ones. Although he was an agnostic or atheist when they met, their children have been raised Christian and attend a Christian school.
Making faith a focal point of his remarks, Vance stated his belief in Christian values as an important foundation of the United States. He cautioned that claims of neutrality on this matter often come with hidden agendas and said he is honest about his views.
This comes amid heightened debates around H-1B visas, with Indians being the largest recipients, and a concurrent rise in anti-Indian racism and hate speech. Some social media posts in response to Indian celebrations like Diwali have contained anti-Indian remarks and calls for deportation.
Vance's comments on balancing faith, family, and personal belief received applause from the conservative audience at the event. He underlined the challenges and importance of maintaining this balance in modern America.
