A trekker from West Bengal tragically lost his life during the challenging Satopanth trek in Uttarakhand's Badrinath region. The deceased has been identified as Sumant, a resident of Baradron in South 24 Parganas district.
On Friday, the Badrinath police station received information about four trekkers stranded on the Satopanth trek, located at an altitude of 4,000 4,500 meters in Chamoli district. One of them was reported to be in critical condition.
A rescue operation was swiftly launched by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), led by Sub-Inspector Deepak Samant. The team, equipped with necessary gear and a satellite phone, navigated the difficult terrain and reached Satopanth on Saturday morning. However, by the time they arrived, Sumant had already passed away.
The SDRF team transported the body to Mana village, where it was handed over to the district police. The remaining three trekkers were rescued and are reported to be in stable condition.
The Satopanth trek is known for its high-altitude challenges and requires trekkers to be well-prepared for the harsh conditions. Authorities have urged adventurers to undertake such treks only with proper acclimatization and under professional guidance to ensure safety.
