Xi Jinping Urges Closer Economic Ties with Vietnam Amid Rising U.S. Trade Pressure

Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for deeper industrial and supply chain partnerships with Vietnam, along with expanded cooperation in new and developing sectors, according to China’s foreign ministry on Monday, as reported by Reuters. His remarks come as trade tensions intensify due to steep U.S. tariffs.

Xi is set to begin a three-nation tour of Southeast Asia this week, starting with a state visit to Vietnam from April 14 to 15.

On Friday, China raised tariffs on American goods to 125%, retaliating against U.S. President Donald Trump's recent move to impose increased duties on Chinese products.

Xi also stressed the importance of enhancing collaboration through regional platforms such as East Asia Cooperation and the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation, the ministry said, referring to an article penned by Xi and published in Vietnamese media.
