Chinese President Xi Jinping will visit Moscow between May 7 to 10, 2025, to attend Russia's Victory Day celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union's victory over Nazi Germany during World War II. Xi is the leading foreign guest invited by Russian President Vladimir Putin and will be attending the annual military procession on Red Square on May 9.

During the visit, Xi and Putin are expected to hold strategic talks on strengthening bilateral ties and discuss major international and regional issues. Several bilateral agreements are likely to be signed, further deepening the comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation between China and Russia. This visit marks Xi’s third trip to Russia since the outbreak of the Ukraine conflict in 2022, underscoring the close alignment between the two countries despite Western sanctions on Moscow.

Victory Day parade is a significant Russian and other post-Soviet holidays commemorating Nazi Germany's victory in the war Russia calls the Great Patriotic War.

The 2025 parade will be significant because it will be the 80th anniversary, and over 10,000 soldiers and the latest arms will participate, with representatives from over 20 nations.

Xi and Putin agreed to jointly celebrate the legacy of World War II, maintain the postwar global order, and advance international fairness and justice. The visit is also a display of China's increasing role in economically and militarily supporting Russia amidst continued geopolitical tensions.

The presence of Xi at the celebration represents the reinforcing China-Russia alliance on the international stage.
