The Defence Acquisition Council, led by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, has approved several procurement proposals worth around ₹67,000 crore. These initiatives aim to improve the operational readiness and combat capabilities of the Indian Armed Forces.

For the Indian Army, the Council has approved the procurement of Thermal Imager-based Driver Night Sight for BMP infantry combat vehicles. This system will significantly enhance night-time mobility and give the Mechanised Infantry an advantage in low-visibility situations.

The Indian Navy will benefit from approvals for the purchase of Compact Autonomous Surface Craft, BrahMos Fire Control System and Launchers, as well as upgrades to the BARAK-1 Point Defence Missile System. The Compact Autonomous Surface Craft will boost the Navy’s anti-submarine warfare efforts by improving its ability to detect, classify, and deal with underwater threats.

The Indian Air Force has received approval for the procurement of Mountain Radars and upgrades for the SAKSHAM and SPYDER Weapon Systems. Adding mountain radars should enhance air surveillance along and beyond mountainous borders. The upgrades to the SAKSHAM and SPYDER systems will allow better integration with the Integrated Air Command and Control System, improving the efficiency and response of the Air Defence network.

In an important move for all three Services, the Council has approved the purchase of Medium Altitude Long Endurance Remotely Piloted Aircraft. These drones can carry multiple payloads and weapons, operating over long distances. Their use will provide continuous surveillance and strengthen India’s precision-strike capabilities.

The Defence Acquisition Council has also approved support for strategic airlift platforms, including the C-17 and C-130J fleets. Moreover, there is a new annual maintenance contract for the S-400 Long Range Air Defence Missile System.

A government official mentioned that the procurement of Compact Autonomous Surface Craft will equip the Indian Navy to detect, classify, and neutralise threats in anti-submarine warfare missions. This highlights the strategic importance of these acquisitions for India's maritime security.
