Dec. 8, New Delhi: Officials said Thursday that a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan who unintentionally went over to Pakistani territory on Wednesday in the Punjab sector has been detained by Pak Rangers and his return is pending.
After a jawan went over to the opposite side last week on December 1 while doing zero line checking along the India-Pakistan International Border (IB), this is the second such incidence in the Abohar area of Punjab. Following a flag meeting, the Pakistan Rangers returned the jawan to the BSF that day.
According to the latest incident, the jawan unintentionally crossed over to the other side on Wednesday morning as a consequence of severe fog and the ensuing "very poor visibility," whereupon he was captured by Pakistan Rangers. A senior BSF official stated, "The BSF and Rangers are in touch and an update on the release is awaiting."
