Anchar Lake in Kashmir Deserves attention

Environment is our basic resource to exist in a healthy way. Lakes form an important part of our environment. Throughout world lakes are integral part of beauty and diversified ecosystems. Kashmir is lucky to have number of beautiful lakes, but due to increasing urbanization and human greed many of these lakes are falling from glory .


Anchar lake Plight is one such example. 


The expert view always has been that Kashmir is world famous for its beauty especially its gorgeous waterbodies in form of Springs and lakes .The lakes form the jewels of this beautiful place and are a well-known feature of the unparallel beauty possessed by this legendary land. But on account of human greed and official apathy the world renowned lakes of Kashmir are on the brink of death .Most of the well-known lakes in Kashmir have been deteriorating in the past few decades.


 As a matter of grim worry Anchar lake located in Soura Srinagar once among renowned water bodies of Kashmir is breathing last and is craving for attention from the concerned stakeholders. 


Masses are pained that the poor condition of once renowned lake of Kashmir-Anchar Lake is the prime example of our environment decay . On account of human lust and indifferent attitude of concerned this lake is breathing its last.


What once used to be globally renowned lake is located in Soura area of Srinagar city at a distance of 10 kilometers from Srinagar city centre known as Anchar Lake is now looking a ecological dustbin rather than lake . 


At one point of time , the Anchar lake used to be a famous tourist and fishing spot. This lake has been the worst hit by growing human encroachments and also official apathy to some extent. The lake has now been reduced to marshy land.


The need of the hour is that both authorities and public join hands to make Anchar lake regain its lost glory. 


Anchar lake in Srinagar is on the verge of extinction and we need to do everything to restore it .
