Key reforms include easier access to gratuity, mandatory appointment letters, regulated working hours, paid leave, and social security benefits.
The codes balance worker rights with business flexibility, including streamlined hiring/firing rules and increased thresholds for layoffs, sparking some trade union protests.
According to expert analysis, codes have also made hybrid workforces more realistic. A smaller, more stable permanent team supported by a larger, flexible pool is now organisationally and legally feasible.
What is great to know that is clearer definition of wages under the new codes will push companies to redesign compensation packages.
Optimistic studies are coming out. Implementation of the new labour codes will boost consumption by Rs 75,000 crore and increase share of formal workforce by at least 15 per cent, economists at SBI said in a note on Tuesday.
The code, which has been implemented from November 21, will also increase social security cover to up to 85 per cent in the next three years and reduce the unemployment rate by 1.3 per cent over the medium term, they said in a note.
