Urs of Hazrat Shah-e-Hamadan (RA) Reflects rich spiritual heritage of Kashmir

Today is the the annual Urs of Hazrat Mir Syed Ali Hamdani (RA), also known as Shah-e-Hamdan.


He was highly respected saint who spread religion of Islam in Kashmir. He came Kashmir from Iran . His great personality did not only preach religion but arts and crafts to the People of Kashmir. 


Reflecting on the Urs of Shah-e-Hamdan (RA), the Chief Minister paid rich tribute to the revered Sufi saint, recalling his immense contributions to the spiritual, cultural, and economic legacy of Kashmir. “Shah-e-Hamdan was a beacon of peace, love, and brotherhood. His teachings continue to inspire generations and his role in introducing and nurturing Kashmir’s world-famous handicrafts remains invaluable,” Omar said.


According to sources of Knowledge, Mir Syed Ali Hamdani was a great Sufi saint of the Kubrawiya order, who played highly significant role in the spread of Islam in the Kashmir Valley. He was born in Hamadan, Iran, and preached Islam in Central Asia and South Asia. He died in Swat on his way from Srinagar to Mecca and was buried in present day Khatlan, Tajikistan, in 1385 CE, aged 71–72.


Also, his personality Hamadani was also addressed honorifically throughout his life as the Shāh-e-Hamadān ("King of Hamadan"), Amīr-i Kabīr ("the Great Commander"), and Ali Sani ("second Ali").


On this sacred occasion, the people of Kashmir at his shrine in Srinagar are praying for lasting peace and prosperity. The prayers are also on the recovery of Kashmir economy hit by yhr the recent Pahalgam tragedy.
