In view of the prevailing situation in Baramulla, Kupwara and Gurez valleys of North Kashmir, the administration has decided to keep all schools and colleges closed today (Wednesday). This was announced by Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri.
He said that this step has been taken to ensure the safety of students, teachers and the common people. This is a precautionary measure, so that any untoward situation can be avoided. Although the exact nature of the situation has not been officially informed, it is believed in local circles that the decision is due to increased security precautions.
“Keeping in mind the prevailing situation and in the interest of public safety, all educational institutions in the concerned areas will remain closed today,” — Bidhuri said in an official statement.
The administration has requested all parents and students not to panic and wait for further instructions as per the information received from reliable government sources. At the same time, residents have been prohibited from going out unnecessarily and have been asked to cooperate with the local administration.
Meanwhile, the administration is saying that although the situation is completely under control, this measure has been taken as a precautionary measure to avoid any untoward incident.
Although today's decision to close down has created concern among thousands of students and their families in Baramulla, Kupwara and Gurez areas, all of them are staying at home in response to the administration's call.
The administration is monitoring the situation and new guidelines will be issued in due course.
