06 June, 2025:

The Supreme Court on Friday allowed the National Board of Examination’s request to reschedule the NEET PG examination to August 3, 2025.

The decision came from a bench comprising Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra and Justice Augustine George Masih allowed the application filed by the NBE for extension of time to conduct the NEET exam.

The bench said that the request made by the NBE was based on technical constraints. "Request made by NBE saying 3rd August is the earliest possible date given by its technology partner TCS," the top court noted.

The apex court also clarified that this extension will be final. "Accordingly, the time allowed by our earlier order to hold the NEET exam is extended. No further extension will be granted," it said.

On May 30, the Supreme Court, while ordering the NBE to hold NEET-PG 2025 in a single shift instead of two shifts, had directed it to conduct the exam on the initially scheduled date of June 15, 2025. At the same time, the Court had allowed the NBE to seek an extension of time.

The NBE today sought extension of time on that ground and said that twice the exam centres would have to be arranged. "We will need double centres to conduct the exam in 1 shift. Identification, assessing security parameters, etc, will take time. We have highlighted other reasons in our application, which is why the exam needs to be conducted on August 3," the NBE counsel said.

The National Board of Examinations (NBE) highlighted that NEET PG is a crucial exam, and every effort must be made to stop cheating. This includes working closely with the police and keeping a stricter watch on exam centres to make sure everything is fair and secure.
