India's top playback singer Arijit Singh has postponed his much-awaited Abu Dhabi concert initially scheduled for May 9, 2025, at Etihad Arena, Yas Island. The decision comes in the wake of increased military tensions between India and Pakistan that have not only impacted diplomatic and security circles but are now also rattling the entertainment industry.
Arijit Singh's management on Instagram, "Owing to recent developments, we have made the unfortunate decision to postpone the Arijit Singh live concert in Abu Dhabi, initially booked for 9 May 2025… We are truly grateful for your co-operation, support, and understanding during this period." We are co-operating fully with the venue and the new date will be released in due course. The release also confirmed that tickets bought earlier would still be usable for the rearranged event, with the possibility of a full refund in a period of seven days from May 12, 2025.
This postponement is the sequel to a series of Arijit and other cancellations after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack where 26 were killed, and one that placed Indo-Pak tensions into overdrive in the blink of an eye. Arijit had already postponed his performance on April 27 in Chennai, and performers such as Shreya Ghoshal and AP Dhillon canceled performances in acts of solidarity as much as precautionary measures spurred by security.
The immediate cause of the delay at Abu Dhabi was the Indian counter-attack in the form of "Operation Sindoor," wherein nine terrorist training camps in Pakistan and the Pakistan-occupied Kashmir were attacked. Pakistan responded by firing heavy guns along the Line of Control and launching drone and missile attacks on Indian military bases, which were blasted by the Indian army. All this has caused security issues, and it became unacceptable to keep hosting gigantic international events with Indian artists.
Fans have reacted in solidarity and sympathy in a uniform manner, welcoming the decision made in view of the situation. Arijit's crew promised fresh dates to be revealed as and when things normalize, and the singer was looking to "create unforgettable memories" with his fans in the near future.
Arijit Singh Abu Dhabi concert rescheduling is an epic reminder that political tensions, in addition to interfering with politics and business, can also catch up with culture and art across borders, disturbing artists and consumers far beyond a country's limit.
