Kireeti Reddy's debut film finds second life on streaming platform after brief cinema run
Kireeti Reddy's much-anticipated debut film "Junior" is preparing for its digital premiere on Amazon Prime Video, offering audiences a second chance to experience the bilingual family drama that struggled to find its footing during its theatrical release.
The film, which hit cinemas on July 18, 2025, as a Telugu-Kannada bilingual production, managed to collect approximately ₹7.65 crore net during its brief theatrical run against a production budget of ₹25 crore. Despite positive reviews for the newcomer's performance, the movie failed to sustain momentum at the box office, concluding its cinema journey within two weeks.
Industry sources confirm that Amazon Prime Video has acquired the digital streaming rights for "Junior," with the film expected to premiere on August 15, 2025. The streaming version will retain both Kannada and Telugu audio tracks, making it accessible to audiences across South India.
Directed by Radhakrishna Reddy in his second directorial venture, "Junior" was conceived as a launchpad for Kireeti Reddy, showcasing his acting prowess and dance skills alongside veteran actor V Ravichandran. The film's narrative centers around Abhi (Kireeti), whose relationship with his overprotective father becomes strained due to constant interference, leading to unexpected revelations about family connections.
The movie features an impressive ensemble cast including Sreeleela, Genelia Deshmukh, Rao Ramesh, Achyuth Kumar, and Kiran Srinivas in supporting roles. However, production challenges significantly impacted the final product, with delays exceeding a year after Kireeti sustained injuries during stunt sequences. These scheduling conflicts notably affected Sreeleela's screen time, with the busy Telugu actress appearing less prominently in the second half.
Music director Devi Sri Prasad composed the film's soundtrack, which includes the viral hit "Viral Vayyari." The song gained considerable attention for featuring one of the rare instances where a male lead matched Sreeleela's renowned dancing abilities, highlighting Kireeti's potential as a performer.
Critics acknowledged Kireeti's confident debut performance, particularly praising his action sequences, emotional range, and dance choreography. Many noted his evident admiration for Jr. NTR, reflected in his expressions and movement style. Genelia Deshmukh's return to cinema after a significant hiatus was also well-received, with reviewers appreciating her mature and graceful portrayal.
While the film followed a predictable commercial format mixing family sentiment with action and romance, it succeeded in establishing Kireeti as a promising newcomer worth watching. The movie's high production values, courtesy of Varahi Chalana Chitram, and quality technical aspects including Senthil Kumar's cinematography and Avinash Kolla's art direction, received positive recognition.
The OTT release represents a crucial opportunity for "Junior" to reach its intended audience beyond theatrical limitations. Streaming platforms have increasingly become vital for regional cinema, allowing films to find their niche viewers who might have missed the original release.
For fans of mass commercial entertainers featuring family drama, action sequences, and romantic elements, "Junior" promises a "paisa vasool" experience on Amazon Prime Video, complete with subtitles for broader accessibility across linguistic barriers.
