Mumbai, 28 June 2025:

Shefali Jariwala, the 42 year old iconic music video sensation, died late Friday night in Mumbai. She is most known for being the fearless face of the popular remix of "Kaanta Laga" from the early 2000s.

She was declared dead upon arrival at Bellevue Multispeciality Hospital in Andheri, presumably due to cardiac arrest. After an emergency call at around one in the morning, Mumbai Police said her husband, actor Parag Tyagi, and three other people took her to the hospital. "Shefali had expired before she was brought in," a hospital official confirmed, and they ordered a postmortem at Cooper Hospital to ascertain the cause of death.

Shefali first gained notoriety as a newcomer to the music business in 2002 after releasing the remix of "Kaanta Laga." Known as "The Kaanta Laga Girl," her remarkable performance elevated her to the status of a pop culture icon. She later made the switch to acting and reality TV, appearing in the 2004 movie Mujhse Shaadi Karogi and appearing on programs like Bigg Boss 13 and Nach Baliye. Shefali has been open about her battles with epilepsy in recent years. Even though she hesitated to accept many roles following her initial fame, she had stated in interviews that she hoped to be remembered forever as the Kaanta Laga girl.

Her unexpected death has shocked and grieved her fans and Bollywood colleagues. Singer Mika Singh lamented her passing, calling her death "deeply shocking" and lauding her grace and spirit. Divyanka Tripathi, an actress, expressed her sympathies to her loved ones and called it "unbelievable." Aly Goni, a Bigg Boss contestant, posted on social media: "Shocked and saddened… Life can be so erratic.” Although authorities are awaiting the official postmortem report for clarification, a spokesperson for the All India Cine Workers Association confirmed that cardiac arrest was the immediate cause of death.

Born in Ahmedabad in 1982, Shefali pursued engineering before entering the entertainment industry in her early twenties. She married Parag Tyagi in 2014. The couple had shared open posts about their relationship, and were reportedly planning to adopt a daughter . Her sudden passing has left fans and industry insiders stunned.

A hospital official said the postmortem would be essential to confirm the exact medical cause of death. For now, the entertainment world mourns the loss of a charismatic talent whose legacy began with a remix video and ended far too soon.
