The death of her daughter was a deep blow in the life of actress Mousumi Chatterjee. Although she had been silent for so long, in a recent interview, she opened up about the death of her late daughter Payel Chatterjee. Her words revealed the immense pain and humiliation a mother experienced.
Mousumi alleged that after her death, her daughter Payel's body was left in the hospital morgue because no one from her in-laws paid the bills. She herself paid all the bills and brought the body home. There was a hint of pain in her voice, "The pain of losing a child never goes away."
Payel had diabetes since childhood. She was in a coma for two years before her death. Mousumi claims that her in-laws did not take proper care of her daughter. She did not get regular treatment. She said, "This is what happens when there is no care and when the treatment is not proper. Her death has thrown our family into turmoil."
Payal's relationship with her younger daughter Megha was like that of a mother. Didi's death is still a deep wound in Megha's heart. Her husband Jayant Mukherjee has also not been able to accept her daughter's death to this day. In her words, "This void will never be filled."
Payal's family relationship with her husband Dicky Sinha was not good from the beginning. The relationship became complicated due to business reasons. In 2018, Moushumi went to court and applied for legal guardianship of her daughter.
After her daughter's death, there was a huge dispute between the two families. Moushumi still believes that if Payal had received proper treatment in time, this tragic outcome could have been avoided.
Although Payal is no more today, her void has not been erased from Moushumi's life. She says, "I feel like I am breaking down little by little every day since she left."
This interview opened the door to a mother's heart—where the long shadow of tears, pride, and imperfections has accumulated.
