Samuel French, 'Killers of the Flower Moon' Actor, Dies at 45 Following Lengthy Cancer Battle

*Los Angeles, May 13, 2025* — Samuel French, the talented actor who appeared in Martin Scorsese's Oscar-nominated film *Killers of the Flower Moon*, passed away at the age of 45 after a long battle with cancer, his family confirmed on Monday.*.


French died peacefully in his Los Angeles residence, flanked by members of his loved family. He had a release sent out regarding which read: "Samuel fought his disease with uncommon grace and strength. He was an affectionate son, brother, and friend and had brought such warmth and spontaneity to all his characters.


Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, French started out in regional theater, later making the shift to film and television in the early 2000s. He received critical acclaim for his subtle turn as tribal elder Thomas Kyle in *Killers of the Flower Moon* (2023), a historical drama that illuminated the Osage Nation killings of the 1920s. His performance was widely praised for adding depth and dignity to a dark period in American history.


Aside from his breakout appearance, few independent films and TV shows showcased French, frequently tackling complex characters with understated intensity. In real life, he became known for his activist work advocating on behalf of Native American rights and cancer research, issues related to which he stuck with even during his own illness.


There has been an outpouring of tributes from around the entertainment industry. Director Martin Scorsese released a statement, "Samuel had a soul-deep presence that made every scene unforgettable. I am heartbroken by this loss."


French leaves behind his partner, two siblings, and parents. A private memorial service will be held later this week, with a public celebration of life to be announced in the days to come.


In place of flowers, the family has asked donations be made to the American Cancer Society in his honor.
