The entertainment industry is mourning the loss of actress Kelley Mack, who passed away peacefully at age 33 on Saturday in her hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio. The talented performer, best known for her role as Addy in AMC's hit series "The Walking Dead," succumbed to glioma of the central nervous system after a courageous battle with the rare brain cancer.
Born Kelley Lynne Klebenow on July 10, 1992, Mack's journey into entertainment began early when she started acting in commercials as a child. Her passion for storytelling was sparked by a mini video camera she received as a birthday gift, setting her on a path that would touch countless lives through her work.
Mack's television career included memorable appearances across popular series. Beyond her notable five-episode arc as Addy in Season 9 of "The Walking Dead" (2018-19), she brought her talents to shows like "Chicago Med," "9-1-1," and "Modern Family." Her versatility extended to voice acting, where she lent her voice to Gwen Stacy in the Oscar-winning animated film "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse."
The actress also made her mark behind the camera as a filmmaker and producer. She wrote, directed, and edited the 2015 short film "Positive" and served as an executive producer on the upcoming feature "Universal," in which she also starred. Her 2016 production "A Knock at the Door" earned recognition at the Atlanta Horror Film Festival.
Last January, Mack courageously shared her diagnosis with fans on social media, revealing how the tumor had affected her spinal cord and mobility. "Due to the biopsy surgery on my spinal cord, I have lost the use of my right leg and most of my left leg," she wrote. Despite these challenges, she remained optimistic and regularly updated followers on her physical therapy progress.
Her sister Kathryn announced the devastating news in a heartfelt social media post, describing Kelley as "a bright, fervent light" who faced her illness with remarkable bravery. The family noted that Mack was surrounded by her loving mother Kristen and aunt Karen in her final moments.
Glioma, the cancer that claimed Mack's life, represents one of the most challenging forms of brain cancer. These tumors develop from glial cells that support neurons in the brain and spinal cord. The specific type that affected Mack—diffuse midline glioma—is particularly aggressive and difficult to treat due to its location in critical areas of the central nervous system.
Colleagues have begun paying tribute to Mack's memory. "The Walking Dead" co-star Alanna Masterson wrote, "What an incredible human. So proud to have fought alongside her in our final episode together."
Mack is survived by her parents Kristen and Lindsay Klebenow, siblings Kathryn and Parker, grandparents Lois and Larry Klebenow, and boyfriend Logan Lanier.
Her family has announced that a life celebration will be held in Ohio on August 16th, honoring a woman who brought warmth, creativity, and inspiration to everyone she encountered both on and off screen.
