Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Vizhinjam International Seaport in Kerala today, marking a major development in India's maritime infrastructure. The event was attended by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Congress MP Shashi Tharoor.

During his speech, PM Modi remarked, "I want to tell the Chief Minister — you are a strong pillar of the INDI alliance, and Shashi Tharoor is also sitting here. Today's event is going to disturb the sleep of many." His comment was seen as a veiled dig at the opposition INDIA alliance, triggering political reactions across the spectrum.

The Vizhinjam port, developed under a public-private partnership model, is India's first deep-water container transshipment port. Built at an estimated cost of ₹8,867 crore, the port is expected to significantly boost India’s global trade connectivity and maritime logistics.

Shashi Tharoor, the MP from Thiruvananthapuram, had welcomed Prime Minister Modi on his arrival in the city. Their joint appearance on stage drew attention, particularly in light of the upcoming general elections.

The presence of both Vijayan and Tharoor alongside the Prime Minister highlighted a rare moment of unity and cooperation, even amidst sharp political rivalries. The inauguration stands as a key milestone not only for Kerala but also for India's strategic shipping ambitions.
