Born as Narendranath Datta on 12th January 1863 in Kolkata, Swami Vivekananda was from an educated & progressive family. From a very young age he was interested in spirituality and philosophy. A turning point in his life was when he met his spiritual guru Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa who taught him the essence of Vedanta and self realization.

Vivekananda got global recognition when he represented India in the Parliament of the World’s Religions in Chicago in 1893. His speech starting with “Sisters and Brothers of America” emphasized the oneness of all religions & the need for tolerance. He became the ambassador of Indian philosophy & spirituality and introduced the Western world to the richness of Vedantic tradition.

Swami Vivekananda founded the Ramakrishna Mission in 1897 an organisation dedicated to social service, education & spirituality. His writings, speeches and teachings were all about self reliance, spiritual growth and service to humanity.
