India and China Military Leaders Meet After a Year, Push for LAC Peace

In a significant development along the India-China border, senior military commanders from both nations met in eastern Ladakh after nearly a year, reaffirming their commitment to maintaining peace and stability along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). The meeting, held at the Chushul-Moldo border point on October 25, 2025, marked the 23rd round of Corps Commander-level talks and aimed to restore normalcy to pre-April 2020 conditions.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, discussions took place in a cordial environment with both sides agreeing to continue dialogue through existing mechanisms to manage ground situations effectively. This engagement follows the 24th round of Special Representatives (SR) talks in New Delhi between National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, where the two nations had outlined a framework for long-term border stability, including steps toward delimitation of boundaries.

The renewed military talks come a year after India and China finalized a patrolling arrangement in key friction points such as Demchok and Depsang, resulting in the disengagement of forward-deployed troops. While disengagement was completed last year, negotiations continue on the next phases de-escalation and de-induction to achieve lasting calm across the contested zones.

Tensions between the two countries have persisted since the 2020 Galwan Valley clash, which marked the most serious confrontation in decades. However, both sides have maintained that peace along the LAC is vital for broader bilateral relations.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping, during their 2024 meeting in Russia, had emphasized the importance of a fair and mutually acceptable resolution to the boundary issue. The latest round of commander-level talks signals cautious progress in that direction, with both armies expressing willingness to sustain dialogue and avoid confrontation.
