Jaishankar Stands Firm on Bangladesh's Duty to Protect Hindus

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar recently addressed growing concerns over the safety of Hindus in Bangladesh, following a series of violent attacks. He reiterated that the protection of religious minorities falls squarely within the jurisdiction of Bangladesh, emphasizing the need for the government there to take robust action.

Jaishankar’s statement comes in the wake of a rising wave of communal violence targeting Hindus, particularly during the Durga Puja festivities in October. Reports of vandalism, attacks on temples, and threats to Hindu communities have sparked alarm across the international community.

While Jaishankar expressed concern over the situation, he made it clear that the Indian government would continue to work diplomatically with Bangladesh to address the issue. However, he firmly pointed out that the onus of ensuring safety and justice lies with Bangladesh's government.

The minister's comments reflect a delicate balance between supporting the minority community while respecting the sovereignty of Bangladesh. Critics argue that more immediate and visible action is needed from the Bangladeshi authorities to prevent further escalation of violence.

As India continues to voice its concerns, the hope remains that Bangladesh will heed international calls and enhance security measures to protect its Hindu citizens. With tensions mounting, it is crucial for both nations to engage in constructive dialogue to ensure peace and harmony across the border.
