In a bizarre incident in Jharkhand’s Dhanbad district, the principal of a private school asked 80 Class 10 students to remove their shirts after they wrote messages on them as part of a ‘pen day’ celebration. The girls were sent home in their blazers, leaving parents and local authorities fuming.
The incident happened on Friday at a top school in Digwadih under Jorapokhar police station area, confirmed Dhanbad Deputy Commissioner (DC) Madhvi Mishra.
According to the parents’ complaint, the students had finished their exams and were celebrating ‘pen day’ by writing messages on each other’s shirts. The principal didn’t like the activity and asked the students to remove their shirts even after they apologised.
"The parents stated that the girls were sent back home in their blazers without shirts underneath, which they found highly objectionable," said DC Mishra.
The district administration has formed a committee to probe into the matter. The committee includes sub-divisional magistrate, district education officer, district social welfare officer and sub-divisional police officer.
Jharia MLA Ragini Singh was present with the parents when they submitted their complaint to the DC. "shameful and unfortunate," said Singh, action should be taken against the principal.
"The administration has assured us that a thorough inquiry will be conducted, and appropriate action will be taken based on the findings of the probe panel," said Mishra.
