Junior Doctors in Bengal Resume Full Strike Over Safety Concerns

Junior doctors across West Bengal have resumed their "total cease work" on Tuesday, demanding immediate measures to ensure their safety and security in government hospitals. The strike, which was previously called off following assurances from the state government, has been re-initiated after recent incidents of assault on medical staff.

Hospitals across the state, including Kolkata, have seen a significant disruption in services, with outpatient departments and emergency services being affected the most. Several junior doctors stated that the government had failed to implement promised safety measures, leaving them vulnerable to violence from disgruntled patients and their families.

“We cannot work in an environment where our lives are constantly at risk,” said one protesting doctor from Nil Ratan Sircar Medical College. “Despite repeated promises, no concrete action has been taken to protect us.”

Patients and their families have expressed distress over the indefinite strike, with many waiting hours or even being turned away due to the unavailability of doctors. The state health department has urged the doctors to return to work, citing the importance of medical services, but the striking doctors remain firm in their demands.

As the situation escalates, both the medical community and the government are under pressure to find a resolution quickly, ensuring that hospital services return to normal while addressing the doctors' safety concerns.

The strike is expected to continue until a satisfactory response is received from the state authorities.
