Manipur Turmoil: Govt’s Silence Draws Criticism
Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has launched a sharp critique of the central government, accusing it of deliberately avoiding accountability for its failure to address the ongoing crisis in Manipur. Speaking during a parliamentary session, Gogoi claimed that the government is employing diversionary tactics to shift focus from the region’s worsening law and order situation. He suggested that the administration’s recent narrative, blaming external figures like George Soros, reflects an unwillingness to confront its own shortcomings.
Gogoi alleged that by deflecting responsibility, the government is undermining the democratic principles of transparency and accountability. “Instead of addressing the humanitarian crisis in Manipur, the government has conveniently shifted the discourse to George Soros. This is not just a failure of governance but a betrayal of the people,” he stated.
Manipur, which has been grappling with ethnic violence and administrative lapses, remains a contentious topic in national politics. Critics argue that the government’s silence is indicative of its inability to provide a sustainable resolution. Gogoi emphasized that the issue cannot be brushed aside by creating external scapegoats, calling on the government to take immediate action to restore peace and stability in the region.
Opposition parties have backed Gogoi’s claims, reiterating demands for a detailed discussion on Manipur in Parliament. The government, however, has yet to respond directly to these allegations. While the political blame game intensifies, the people of Manipur continue to bear the brunt of the prolonged unrest.
