Mumbai Gets Hyper and Puts Hold on Construction Work Amidst Air Pollution Crisis
Mumbai’s authorities have declared immediate halt to any type of construction in two regions as the lung suffering in the city increased to ‘very severe’. The aim for this emergency measures to be taken up is because of increased levels of pollution in the areas as further deterioration would badly impact the already existing healthcare conditions.

Dr Meenal Shah, a Pulmonologist being on the crisis states, “The air we are breathing now is toxic. Measures like halting construction are necessary but temporary. Long-term strategies are vital.”
After the clamp down, the residents living in the surrounded areas have sent varied feedback and voiced their opinions on it. Some say that they are in favor of the new decision while the others say that the new decision that has been made doesn’t have the spots in it: “Why wait for the situation to become this dire? The civic body should have stricter controls year-round,” said Aditi Kulkarni, a local activist.
Another constructional work related activist has a stern statement: One reason is that environmentalists are citing the airborne pollution that construction dust causes as one of the reasons for the drop in air quality in the city.
