Peace at the Border: India's Firm Stand

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has reiterated India's stance on the ongoing tensions with China, emphasizing that peace along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) is a prerequisite for normalizing bilateral relations. Speaking at an event on Friday, Jaishankar highlighted that unresolved border issues have disrupted mutual trust, impacting diplomatic and trade ties between the two nations.

Jaishankar made it clear that India remains committed to a peaceful resolution but will not compromise on its territorial integrity. “We cannot have a situation where agreements are disregarded, and the border remains tense,” he stated, referring to the multiple military standoffs that have marked India-China relations in recent years.

The EAM’s comments come at a time when China has been accused of increasing military infrastructure in border areas, particularly in Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh. While Beijing continues to call for dialogue, its actions on the ground often contradict its words, raising concerns in New Delhi.

India, which has been pushing for disengagement and de-escalation, has maintained that a stable border environment is non-negotiable. Jaishankar also pointed out that the world is watching how China handles its international relationships, stressing that India seeks clarity and consistency in its neighbor’s approach.

This firm yet diplomatic message from India underscores the need for China to address border concerns sincerely if it wishes to rebuild trust and strengthen economic ties with its southern neighbor.
