Rohan Jaitley Re-Elected as DDCA President, Triumphs Over TMC's Kirti Azad in a Heated Contest

Rohan Jaitley, son of the late BJP leader and former finance minister Arun Jaitley, has been re-elected as the president of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA). Jaitley triumphed over former Indian cricketer and Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Kirti Azad in a fiercely contested election.

Jaitley’s re-election signals continuity in his leadership of the DDCA, a position he first assumed in 2020. During his previous tenure, Jaitley emphasized governance reforms, infrastructure development, and transparency in DDCA operations. His efforts earned him strong support from key stakeholders within the cricketing community.

Speaking after his victory, Jaitley expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him. “This win is not just for me but for the vision of a stronger and more transparent DDCA. I am committed to furthering the growth of cricket in Delhi and ensuring better facilities for our players and members,” he said.

Kirti Azad, a former Indian cricketer and a vocal critic of DDCA’s management, had launched a robust campaign focusing on systemic changes and player welfare. Azad, who played a key role in India’s 1983 World Cup victory, represented the TMC in the election and drew attention to alleged irregularities in the association’s operations during his campaign.

Despite Azad’s cricketing legacy and strong political backing, Jaitley’s administrative experience and track record with the DDCA proved decisive. Jaitley’s team highlighted his achievements, including initiating modernization projects, streamlining financial practices, and nurturing grassroots cricket talent.

Political observers noted that Azad’s defeat underscores the challenges faced by political outsiders entering cricket administration, especially when competing against entrenched figures with significant local support.

The election witnessed a high voter turnout, reflecting increased interest among DDCA members in the governance of cricket in the capital. The closely watched contest also underscored the growing intersection of politics and cricket administration in India, with both candidates bringing their political affiliations into play.

Jaitley’s re-election comes at a critical time for the DDCA, which has faced controversies over governance and financial transparency in recent years. Observers believe that Jaitley’s leadership will now be put to the test as he addresses these longstanding issues while delivering on his promises of reforms and improved facilities.

Azad, while conceding defeat, congratulated Jaitley but reiterated his concerns about the need for accountability in the DDCA. “I respect the decision of the members, but I hope Mr. Jaitley takes steps to address the issues I raised during my campaign,” he said.

Cricket enthusiasts and stakeholders will now watch closely as Jaitley embarks on his second term.
