Stranded Kashmiri Pilgrims in Syria: JKSA Urges Jaishankar for Immediate Evacuation

The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) has raised an alarm over the plight of Kashmiri pilgrims stranded in Syria. In a formal letter to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, the JKSA emphasized the escalating dangers and called for swift government action to ensure their safe return.

Reports indicate that these pilgrims, primarily elderly individuals, embarked on religious tours unaware of the emerging geopolitical instability in the region. With worsening conditions, families back in Kashmir are growing increasingly anxious about their loved ones’ safety.

JKSA spokesperson Nasir Khuehami expressed deep concern, stating, "These pilgrims are in a perilous situation, with access to basic necessities becoming more challenging by the day. The government must act promptly to avert a humanitarian crisis."

The association has urged the Ministry of External Affairs to coordinate evacuation efforts and provide logistical support for the stranded individuals. In its letter, JKSA highlighted that similar interventions have been made in the past to rescue Indian citizens from conflict zones, reinforcing the need for immediate action.

This situation underscores the broader challenges of ensuring the safety of Indian citizens abroad, especially in regions prone to volatility. Critics argue that pre-departure advisories and better monitoring of such pilgrimages could prevent similar crises in the future.

As the clock ticks, the spotlight is on the Indian government to demonstrate its commitment to citizen welfare. For the stranded pilgrims and their families, hope hinges on swift action from the corridors of power in New Delhi.
