Srinagar, May 8:- Janata Dal United (JDU) Jammu & Kashmir UT President GM Shaheen has strongly urged the Lieutenant Governor’s administration and the Central Government to immediately relocate the border residents severely affected by the recent unprovoked shelling by Pakistani forces in the wake of Operation Sindoor.
Expressing deep concern over the tragic loss of innocent lives and the widespread destruction, Shaheen stated that thousands of civilians have been impacted in the past two days alone. “The residents along the Line of Control are living in a constant state of fear as casualties continue to rise,” he said.
Mr. Shaheen appealed to the authorities to urgently establish temporary shelters and ensure the provision of medical assistance to the displaced population without delay.
Highlighting the extent of the cross-border aggression, he pointed out that the Pakistani shelling was not limited to Poonch, but also affected the forward areas of Rajouri in the Jammu region, as well as the Uri, Karnah, and Tangdhar sectors in Kupwara district.
“The shelling has left a trail of devastation—damaged homes, shattered shops, burnt vehicles, and streets strewn with debris and bloodstains. Even heritage landmarks such as the historic Poonch Fort and ancient temples have not been spared,” Shaheen lamented.
More than 150 residents from Dhaki village have reportedly taken refuge in the homes of relatives after their houses suffered extensive damage.
“We strongly condemn Pakistan for deliberately targeting civilian populations. This act once again exposes Pakistan’s hostile and inhumane behaviour,” he asserted.
Shaheen also praised the valor and resilience of the Indian security forces, congratulating them for delivering a strong and befitting response to the Pakistani aggression. “Our Army is strong, and our people stand shoulder to shoulder with our soldiers. We salute their courage and determination. We have the strongest army in the world, and we believe it will respond to Pakistan's provocations with strength and resolve,” he said.
