Youth Killed While Resisting Robbery Attempt in Qazigund, One Accused Apprehended

Qazigund, July 18: In a tragic turn of events, a young man lost his life while bravely attempting to thwart a robbery attempt at his home in the Sangran area of Qazigund during the early hours of Friday.

At around 2:00 AM, some unknown individuals entered the residential premises of Mohd Yaseen Banday, a resident of Kishgund, Sangran, Qazigund, posing as security personnel. Under the pretext of conducting a search operation, the intruders directed all family members to come out of the house.

Sensing something suspicious, Zahid Ahmad Banday, son of the house owner, attempted to apprehend one of the intruders, suspecting them to be thieves. In the confrontation that followed, one of the attackers struck Zahid with a sharp-edged weapon, causing critical injuries.

Zahid was immediately rushed to Emergency Hospital Qazigund, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

In the meantime, other family members managed to overpower one of the attackers and promptly handed him over to Police Station Qazigund. Upon searching the apprehended individual, police recovered a toy pistol and a sharp knife from his possession. The individual had also sustained injuries during the scuffle and was shifted to GMC Anantnag for treatment.

The remaining assailants managed to flee from the scene, and a manhunt has been launched to trace them.

Police have registered a case, and an investigation is currently underway. Authorities have assured that all possible angles are being examined and further details will be shared as the probe progresses.

The local community has expressed shock and grief over the incident and demanded stringent action against the culprits.
