Kulgam 22 July:In a landmark judgment that brings closure to a traumatic 15-year-long wait for justice, the Hon’ble Court of Additional Sessions Judge, Fast Track Court Kulgam, has convicted two individuals in a brutal acid attack case dating back to 2010.
The case relates to a horrifying attack on a Rehbar-e-Taleem teacher from Kolinad Lamad and his wife, who were targeted inside their home in a premeditated act of violence. The teacher lost his eyesight completely, while his wife sustained severe burn injuries, marking the couple with lifelong physical and emotional scars.
The convicted individuals, Mohammad Yaseen Kully, son of Ali Mohammad Kully, and Mohammad Iqbal Kully, son of Mohammad Yousuf Kully, both residents of Kully Nad Lamad, Devsar, were found guilty in connection with FIR No. 214/2010 registered under sections 452, 307, 326, and 34 of the Ranbir Penal Code at Police Station Qazigund.
The court, after a prolonged legal battle, upheld the prosecution’s case, which was built on strong witness testimonies and corroborating evidence that established the pre-planned and heinous nature of the crime.
While the court has delivered its verdict on the conviction, the quantum of punishment is yet to be announced, with arguments on sentencing expected to be heard in the coming days.
The judgment is being seen as a significant moment in the fight against acid violence and a strong message that justice, even if delayed, will not be denied.
